Biomass & Biofuels

Biomass is a clean and renewable energy source and is the second most common form of renewable energy utilized in the United States.  Biomass means ‘natural material’ and biomass energy uses organic natural resources like plants, crops, wood, manure and some garbage to create fuel and power.  Recycled and waste materials, like wood, paper, corn stalks and cobs and other crops can be used to create biomass energy.  When the biomass products are burned, the chemical energy stored is released as heat.  Biomass can also be converted into other usable forms of energy, like transportation fuels (ethanol and biodiesel) and methane gas.  Biomass produces less pollution than fossil fuels when burned and the crops grown to create the biomass offset some of the harmful effects to the environment. This section includes companies that provide environmentally friendly products and services related to the utilization of renewable biomass energy and biofuels.  Products include items such as wood and pellet heating systems and boilers, wood burning stoves, and systems, equipment and tools that use biofuels (biodiesel or ethanol) or methane gas to operate, and more.
